Ciao Francisco & Gary
San Francisco and Sebastopol, CA
Goshen, Indiana (Gary) and Leon, Guanajuato in Mexico(Francisco)
Favorite underappreciated wine:
We truly adore Petit Sirah. Because we are fans of big bold red wines, a spicy Petit Sirah really hits the spot. Our second favorite varietal is Syrah (which is a parent ofPetit Sirah) and we always enjoy a glass or two of Montemaggiore Syrah (the 2003 Syrah is Francisco's favorite).
Favorite board game:
Apples To Apples
Currently playing on the iPod:
The soundtrack from the movie Burlesque, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, and Latin salsa music.
Recommended food & wine pairing:
Braised short ribs with broccolini, served over polenta paired with Montemaggiore Nobile. We served this to four friends for dinner recently. Gary is gluten intolerant and makes these wonderful gluten free biscuits that everyone seems to love. These went well with our short ribs with its rich creamy gravy. For wine, we served three very nice cabernet sauvignons: a Montemaggiore Nobile as well as two very fine Napa Valley cabs.
We have a very close friend who passed away four years ago. He owned and operated an antique store in Sebastopol, which was left in his will to Food For Thought (FFT), Sonoma County's AIDS Food Bank. Though we have been involved with FFT for many years, lately we've been devoted to helping FFT Antiques develop an eBay presence by photographing and posting many antiques and collectibles on eBay. We donate all shipping and packing costs to FFT so that 100% of the eBay proceeds go to FFT.
First interest in wine:
Both of us came to wine late in life, Gary when he moved to the Bay Area from the Midwest almost thirty years ago, and Francisco, when he started hanging out with Gary over ten years ago. These days, we live in San Francisco during the week, and on weekends head up to our house in Sebastopol (Lise's favorite Sonoma County town aside from Healdsburg) with its fabulous 1600 bottle wine cellar.
Favorite sports teams:
The Chicago Cubs (perhaps this will be the year?) and the Green Bay Packers
