We'd like to introduce you to a member of the Montemaggiore family...
Ciao Emily and James!
Home:
New York City (TriBeCa)
Favorite Italian Restaurant in NYC:
il Mulino on 3rd in the Village
Most memorable place for a glass of wine:
The balcony of the San Domenico Palace in Taormina overlooking the Mediterranean (Vincent’s note: Taormina is about 120km away from Montemaggiore in Sicily)
Current iPod Music:
Emily: Jimmy Buffett, Van Morrison, David Gray, Gipsy Kings, Jack Johnson
James: Smashing Pumpkins, Cake, DJ Kool, Air, Snoop Dogg, The Farm
Favorite Italian town:
A three-way tie between Ravello (on the Amalfi Coast), Todi (in Umbria), and Firenze (aka Florence)
Recently discovered Italian wine:
Sagrantino, a bold, tannic red from the village of Montefalco in Umbria. Only made in this village, a dozen or so producers work with Sagrantino, with about 250 total acres planted. Like with Amarone, the picked grapes spend two months on wooden trays, without going rotten or losing sugar, before being fermented into wine.
