We'd like to introduce you to a member of the Montemaggiore family...
Ciao Joe!
Birthplace:
Smithers, British Columbia (600 miles north of Vancouver, about 150 miles from Alaska).
Home:
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Favorite Canadian Wine Region:
Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. Not only did I first become interested in wines when living in that area, but they make some great wines today!
Best place for a Philly Cheesesteak:
You know, I've lived in Philadelphia for 40 years and never had a cheesesteak! It's all that white bread, I like whole grains and organic foods.
Best restaurant for wine:
The Capital Grille in Philly, the people really know their wines! Great selection and great atomosphere.
Childhood memory:
You never know who is going to make an impact on your life. When I was eight, after playing a great game of hockey, our local druggist Claude Munson said to me: "You continue playing like that kid, and you'll end up in the NHL".
Current frequency of skating:
I still play 18-20 hockey games a year. As a matter of fact, I've still got this bruise on the back of my leg from a game two weeks ago, but that's hockey!
Little known fact:
I love pesto and make my own stuff! I grow basil in my garden, and I made 18 containers of pesto last year. Even my daughter says it's great!
Motto to live by:
In May 1974, after we won our first Stanley Cup game, Coach Shero said, "Take the shortest possible route to the puck and arrive in ill-humor". That made a big impact on my life.
